Lingerie
Welcome to visionslingerie.com! We are a delightfully wicked Web site devoted to bringing you the best in lingerie and intimate apparel.
Lingerie was not always the sexually charged item it is today. For centuries the main functions of undergarments were to help women achieve body forms deemed socially appealing or to provide modest covering during the night. Examples of the former include the girdle and corset. Examples of the latter include a bed jacket and drawers.
Something like a corset did have aesthetics in mind, it was supposed to suck in the stomach and display the breasts to better effect. The garment itself was not aesthetically designed however, it was meant to be worn underneath a dress and not to be seen by itself. It was just not something a socially proper lady of the time would do. This is not to suggest that it was never done, there were burlesque halls and dance halls where you could find girls decked out- and for rent. But that was no way for a lady to behave.
This was far better than items like drawers however. Drawers were pants worn to bed; they were baggy, cinched at the waist and ankles, and generally unflattering. They were more emblematic of social attitudes towards sexuality during their peak. That attitude was to cover up anything sexually charged whenever possible.
This attitude persists in some circles even to this day, but the social consciousness has moved on from it. Today sexy lingerie can be hot , a means to spice up your love life. You can find it for just about any body type, from petites to plus sizes, even men have lingerie made especially for them. This is largely due to feminism, and the radical rethinking it forced society to do.
We owe much of the lingerie terminology, as well as the culture, to the French. They pioneered undergarments as a public display before it was considered socially acceptable elsewhere. They developed the bra, or to give it it’s full name, the brasserie. It was an alternative to the corset, which held in the stomach while attempting to provide breast support. The French split the corset’s functions between two garments, the bra, which offered shoulder support for the breasts, and the girdle which offered garter attachments and lower form control.
Today’s lingerie markets include just about anything you can dream up, as well as things you would probably rather not see- awake or asleep. There are things that hint, things that conceal, things that suggest, and things that flaunt. What you choose to use is entirely up to your tastes. You can wear leather lingerie, silk, satin, or cotton. You can dress in lacy patterns, or sheer simplicity. You can wear the innocence of wedding day white, the passionate heat of red, or the sexy indulgence of black.
One of the most popular occasions for lingerie is Valentine’s Day. This holiday is specifically for lovers, and it should be no surprise that lovers use it to full advantage. There’s something about lingerie that alludes to the exotic and unknown. When put on a spouse you may have known for years, it adds that spark that can go lacking from a love life.
